Carbonite is the award winning backups provider, and has some pretty impressive features, it’s basic home package includes unlimited storage space, encrpytion and the whole host of useful features we’ve come to appreciate from online backup services.

While most online backups providers have been focusing on providing extravagant backup policies such as unlimited storage space, file synchronisation, secure storage and web integration. Few seem to have considered the big what if scenario, what if you actually lose all your data and you need to restore all your precious files?

Carbonite 4 has been launched recently and we’re quite excited about it, the area Carbonite seems to have focused on in this release is recovery, and there are a few key areas that my eyes have drawn to in this episode.

They’ve enhanced the search and find system, utilising tag a and file indexing to aid the search process, and have made flicking though various versions as easy as can be, such as through the implementation of size, content and data searches to narrow down on files in case you forget the name.

Furthermore carbonite has added the option to choose the order in which the files are restored this is important because online backups take a long time to backup and restore so you want to prioritise your much more important files at the start of the queue so they are restored quicker than your less important files like your movie and music collection.

What’s more impressive is that Carbonite keeps up to 3 MONTHS worth of versioning on all files, this is by far the biggest offering we have come across, and is pretty impressive.
